Actively Listen…
You don’t need to watch anything to enjoy great music. Share your music with your kids. Don’t always just put it on in the background — sit down and really listen with your kids, or get up and dance with ‘em, and tell them why you love the music.
Then go on adventures together to expand your musical horizons. You don’t need a Ph.D. or senior citizens’ card to love fine art music. You just need an open mind and a sense of adventure.
The Noize family listens to pop/rock music from the Beatles to the silliest pop trifles imaginable. We also listen to Beethoven, Haydn, Hawaiian music, folk, jazz, fusion, soundtracks, and everything in between.
You never know what your kids and their adventurous, open minds will love — the Noize kidz love the Star Wars soundtracks (they can identify each character’s theme even though they’ve never seen the movies), a new age CD from Spa Nordstrom (no kidding), and a folk CD by an indie band called Illari that plays in the street at Pier 39 in San Francisco.
Your kids will make your musical tastes more adventurous if you let ‘em.
