Calling All Noizemakers!

Doctor NoizeNoizemakers! I seek your help! This is the most important Blah Blah Blog I’ve posted thus far — okay, fine, this is the only important Blah Blah Blog I’ve posted so far — so I’ll post it here for several weeks before writing a new one. I hope it will inspire you to take action.

Now that Doctor Noize’s muzical launch is complete, it’s time for a year of serious outreach to share the muzic and bookz with as many people as possible. Despite the success so far with some nice national airplay and press, this is an indie release, and blissfully so. I want this to build organically, so I’m playing a wide variety of Showz and seeking word-of-mouth grassroots support over big corporate sponsorship.

People at the Showz will get inspired and spread the word. This will lead to faster sales and production of more recordingz, bookz, showz, and future animated projects as well — projects that, with your help, will never lose their independent streak.

I’ve set my show fee at a very reasonable rate for the first year. I don’t wanna miss the opportunity to get out and play for folks because they can’t afford it. I figure having an accessible rate early on and playing lots of different places will build the coolest group of Noizemakers and pay off for artist and audience alike in the end. And I’m asking you to help build the grassroots momentum now. Here’s how…

I want your help booking one Doctor Noize Show.

This help can come in the form of contact information for someone you know at your local family venue or attraction, concert series, school, library, bookstore, corporate family event, private function, or media outlet; it can come in the form of your personal endorsement of Doctor Noize to the above venues; or you can go hog wild and serve as my liason and/or booking agent to said venue (this, incidentally, will earn you a free Doctor Noize shirt of your choozing). Or let loose with your own brilliant creative ideas.

I cannot possibly overstate how impactful it will be toward my goal of maintaining an independent career that is most beneficial to kids and their families if every fabulous Noizemaker helps line up one show this year. If you don’t know anyone at any potential venues, or you only have moments instead of minutes to help spread the word, please consider sending an email to your friends with kids in their lives to let ‘em know about Doctor Noize.

Thank you so much to all who take this grassroots call to action to heart. As you’ve probably gathered, one of the things I love about this calling is the indie ethic behind it. The blog post below has the metros and dates I already plan to tour in the coming year. More may be added. If you know of great opportunities for Doctor Noize in other locations, by all means let’s go for it, baby.

Thanks everybuddy!

#1!

Hi Everybuddy,

Doctor NoizeWell, my babes are back in town after being gone for five days, and I am very happy to have them back around. When my two girls and their beautiful mother are gone, I am reminded how much my life is built around them. Home is home when they’re here; otherwise it’s just a place to live.

I received great news today: “Banana” has climbed to #1 on the national XM Kids chart! I’m really excited about this. I’m sort of going bananas over it. Sorry — it was just so obvious, I had to say it. Please forgive me. In any event, this means that a lot of people out there are hearing music from “The Ballad Of Phineas McBoof,” and that makes me very happy.

My mind has been working over something for the past two weeks, and that thing is touring. I would like to perform in various places, but I don’t want to be away from my family for more than a week. Hmmm… This limits my options a great deal. Maybe I’ll branch out a little more than that, but I am quite sure that while my kids are young I’ll never want to be touring around without my family for more than a few weeks here and there in any given year. So I’ll have to be wise about when and where I go.

Also, due to the nature of my show, traveling by air is very expensive. Because of all the instruments and technology I incorporate into my show, my traveling gear consists of twenty bags of equipment. Twenty bags! So it is very expensive to fly the show anywhere.

My current plan is to go on a Wild West Tour for a month each summer, hitting several Western states and the coast, and to go a few times a year to the San Francisco Bay Area, where I grew up. So I’ll have a major stomping ground in the Denver metro, a minor stomping ground in the Bay Area, and a region I hit once a year in the Western states. As to the other states… We’ll see what we can do in the future.

If my wife and kids weren’t so cute, this wouldn’t be a problem. I’d just get one of those big old motor homes and live on the road for long stretches of time. But they are, so I won’t. It’s a good problem to have.
